Window Screen Repair & Rescreening in Charlotte, NC & Surrounding Areas
Screen repair from $50 (tax not included)
Torn, bent, or pet-damaged screens? We rescreen on-site - usually in a single visit - for a fraction of replacement cost.
Why Window Screens Fail
Window screens are the part of your home most people never think about until one tears. A small rip lets in mosquitoes, gnats, and the occasional wasp. A bent frame means the screen no longer seats cleanly in the track and daylight shows through every edge. And once a pet has put a paw through the mesh, the damage usually gets worse every time the screen is bumped.
The most common failure we see is torn or stretched mesh. Standard fiberglass screen is soft and economical, but it is not built to survive a dog pressing against it or a branch falling across the glass. Once the mesh tears, the opening grows. Aluminum mesh holds up better but dents permanently when hit and those dents are visible from inside the room. Pet claws, kids leaning on screens, and storm debris are the top three causes we see across Charlotte, Marvin, and Waxhaw.
Bent or racked frames are the second most common problem. Screen frames are thin-wall aluminum or vinyl, and they bend if a screen falls out a second-story window, gets stepped on while stored in the garage, or gets pried on with a flathead. A racked frame will not sit flush in the window opening and the mesh around the edge loosens over time. We can usually straighten a mildly bent frame on-site; badly kinked frames need replacement.
Finally, Charlotte's sun and humidity accelerate the breakdown of the screen itself. Years of UV exposure make fiberglass mesh brittle - it loses its flex, the weave opens up, and eventually it splits along a fold when you press on it. Humid summers and wide temperature swings also shrink and stretch the spline (the rubber cord that locks the mesh into the frame channel), so old spline gets hard and cracked and no longer holds the mesh tight. Most screens in homes built in the early 2000s are long past due for a rescreen.
The one piece of good news is that you almost never need new windows because of a screen problem. The screen is a separate, removable component - it slides or clips into the outside of your window frame and has nothing to do with the glass, sash, or hardware. That means we can rescreen or replace just the screen and leave everything else alone. Homeowners who call us after getting quoted thousands of dollars for "replacement windows" are often surprised when the real fix costs a tenth of that.
Screen Types We Install
We stock four mesh types so we can match what you already have or upgrade to something better. We will walk you through the trade-offs on-site.
Fiberglass
Standard
The industry-standard mesh in most Charlotte homes. Soft, economical, and easy to work with. Great visibility and airflow. Best for windows away from pets and heavy traffic.
Aluminum
Durable
Metal mesh that holds up to weather and time. More resistant to tearing than fiberglass. Will show a visible dent if hit hard, but the weave itself rarely fails. A good match for older homes that came with aluminum originally.
Pet-Resistant
Heavy-Duty
Vinyl-coated polyester mesh roughly 7x stronger than fiberglass. Stands up to paws, claws, and full-weight leans from large dogs. The go-to upgrade for patio doors, first-floor windows, and anywhere a pet pushes against the screen.
Solar Screen
UV & Heat Block
Tightly-woven mesh that blocks up to 90% of UV rays and a large share of solar heat. Lowers cooling bills on west- and south-facing windows and protects floors and furniture from fading. Popular for sunrooms and second-story bedrooms.
How We Rescreen Your Windows
A straightforward 3-step process, done on-site in most cases. No waiting days for screens to come back from a shop.
Assess
We pull each screen, inspect the frame for bends and corner damage, check the spline channel, and confirm mesh type. Frames that can be straightened get straightened. Badly damaged frames get flagged for replacement.
Rescreen
We cut new mesh to fit, roll it into the frame channel with a fresh spline, trim the excess flush, and tension the mesh so it sits tight and flat. Takes about 15 to 30 minutes per screen.
Reinstall
We rehang each screen in its original opening, check the fit, and confirm the latch tabs seat correctly. Sliding screen doors get rollers realigned at the same time. Debris and old mesh leave with us.
On-Site vs. Drop-Off
We handle almost every residential rescreen on-site in a single visit. Our van carries fiberglass, aluminum, pet-resistant, and solar mesh rolls along with the standard spline sizes, so there is no need to pull your screens out, drive them across town, and wait a week. The only time we schedule a second visit is when a frame is too badly damaged to salvage - in that case we measure on the first trip and come back with a new frame already fitted. For homeowners in Marvin, Waxhaw, Weddington, Fort Mill, and across the Charlotte metro, this usually saves several days and a round trip.
While we are on-site we often spot other issues worth addressing in the same visit. If the glass behind the screen is cracked, chipped, or cloudy, we can quote window glass replacement or foggy window repair at the same time. And for west-facing rooms that run hot in the afternoon, pairing a solar screen with window film and tinting can cut the heat gain further than either one alone. Ask us on-site and we will bundle the trip charges.
